More than comfort

Your A/C system is part of your vehicle’s climate control. It cools the cabin in summer and helps clear the windshield in other seasons. Some A/C problems involve leaks that can affect other parts in the engine compartment, so a small issue left alone can grow.

Signs your A/C needs service

  • Air that starts out cold, then turns warm: possible causes include a faulty compressor clutch, a restricted expansion valve, or an electrical fault such as a bad fuse or wire
  • Weak airflow: a clogged cabin air filter, a failing blower motor or resistor (often only some fan speeds work), or a blocked or iced-over evaporator
  • Foul odor from the vents: often a dirty cabin air filter or mold or mildew in the evaporator case
  • Air that is not as cold as it used to be: low refrigerant from a leak, a failing compressor, or another failed component

What we do

We start with diagnosis: checking the system for leaks, testing the compressor, controls and blower, and inspecting the filter and ventilation. For odors, cleaning the evaporator and vent system and replacing a dirty cabin filter can help. We explain what we find before repairs begin.

Do not wait for summer

If your A/C is weak, it is worth having it looked at early. Our ASE-certified technicians can inspect your vehicle and explain your options. Book at whichever of our shops is most convenient.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does my A/C blow warm air?

Common causes include low refrigerant from a leak, a failed compressor or clutch, or an electrical problem. It takes a diagnosis to know which.

Why is the airflow weak?

A clogged cabin air filter, a failing blower motor or resistor, or a blocked evaporator can all reduce airflow. A stuck blend door usually affects temperature rather than airflow.

Why does my A/C smell?

Odors often come from a dirty cabin filter or from mold or mildew in the evaporator case.
