Long Beach Radiator Fan Repair
You could say that your vehicle’s engine is like a war zone. It is constantly detonating fuel, causing tiny explosions inside which are converted into rotational energy to power your drive wheels. With so many explosions inside, every engine is bound to heat up. This is why your car has as cooling system, responsible for dissipating heat away from the engine, into the outside atmosphere as you drive around Long Beach. One critical part of this system is the radiator fan, which is usually powered by an electric motor, and designed to turn on at a certain engine temperature. The fan is located in front of or behind the radiator, and blows ambient air to cool the coolant passing through the radiator. The coolant then flows through the entire engine, absorbing the engine’s heat and preventing it from overheating. If the cooling fan stops working, then the coolant will remain hot, and your vehicle’s engine will overheat.
If you have a problem with your radiator fan, it may be caused by a few different things. To diagnose and repair the problem, first the computer system should be scanned for any diagnostic trouble codes. Then, all related fuses and relays should be tested – sometimes, a blown fuse can cause the motor to stop working, even if there is no problem with the motor itself. Then, we will test for power and ground going to the fan. If all of these systems are functioning properly, then the radiator fan motor is removed and replaced, and tested for proper operation.
Your radiator fan motor is an electrical motor that resides in a high temperature environment. It will most likely eventually fail. If you notice that the engine is running hotter than usual, or overheating, and see or hear that the fan is not working, you should have your cooling system inspected immediately.
If a defective radiator fan motor is not repaired, then your car will most likely overheat, and your engine may suffer irreversible, catastrophic damage. You should be able to get away with driving short distances before your engine heats up, or driving at speed, but if you drive in normal Long Beach stop-and-go traffic or sit at a red light for a few minutes, your engine can get dangerously hot within minutes. For this reason, it is not recommended to drive at all with a broken radiator fan, and to get it repaired as soon as possible.
